Shoreline School District
In the Shoreline School District, students get to use the most recent 21 century technology to get the learning best suited for them to thrive in the society set in front of us today.
At the start of each year, students and parents alike will both have to sign a form that they will follow the rules and expectations set by the district. If in violation of the rules, the school will take away the district provided technology.
The Shoreline School District uses Common Sense Media to teach its students how to properly behave and how to properly act online. They also like to use Digital Passport to learn how to be a good digital citizen. As they teach their lessons, lesson plans will always be sent to their parents so the kids and the parents could talk about the lesson.
During 5th grade, they learn about internet privacy, username and password security, how to stay safe while emailing and texting, and how to keep their computers safe from viruses. In 6th grade, students are taught how to keep their information safe, how to recognize and respond to cyberbullying, and for the first time, learn about digital footprint.
Lynnwood School District
In the Lynnwood School District, students have access to the latest lessons about digital citizenship. They teach digital citizenship with Common Sense Media about internet safety and how to find reliable cites. They learn how to make good searches and what to put in the search bar to get the best results.
6th Grade

5th Grade
- Picture Perfect: how pictures can be edited on a computer and how it may affect someone.
- What is cyber-bullying
- How to communicate safely online.
4th Grade
- Staying safe and secure in the digital world: they learn about common mistakes kids make online and how to refrain from making the same mistakes.
- How to make strong passwords and recognize the risk of using a weak password.
- Again, they talk about the affects of making hurtful photos of people they dislike.
3rd Grade
- The power of words: why not to use harmful or mean words online, how to handle the situation if it happens.
- What kinds of responsibility a persons has to be safe and kind online.
- Whose is it anyway: they learn about plagiarism and how to give credit for the cites they use.
The Wenatchee School District
In the Wenatchee School district, everyone learns about digital citizenship by using presentations that the school district makes. On top of the presentation, they also use Common Sense Media to teach about harassment and cyber bullying.
Their lesson plans also consist of 6 45 minute videos teaching about online safety. Regularly, they would show students different scenarios and how to deal with cyber bullying. They teach people how to handle cyber bullying and how to resolve the tension between the 2.
The students of the Wenatchee School District uses district provided I-pads to learns in different subjects. They use them to prepare students to familiarize with all the tech they need to use when the grow up.
Granite Falls
In Granite Falls, the school district makes a website to post all the things they teach about digital citizenship. The website consists of all their lesson plans along with all the websites they use.
