Reflection of Digital Citizenship

I believe digital citizenship is a very important aspect of life that we cannot ignore. We need to help where ever we can in the digital world but we also need to be aware of all the scams and viruses.

According to my research, most if not all school districts have some sort of lesson plan detailing digital citizenship. Every single school district uses some sort of technology when they are teaching ranging from surfaces, I-pads, to Chromebooks. Most school districts in Washington uses Common Sense Media as it has good lesson plans for all grades up to high school.

Some school districts like Granite Falls uses multiple websites to teach their students and make them fully understand the usage of online safety. Cyber bullying is a big issue and many school districts have strict punishment for the people.

Kings Digital Citizenship

Kings uses multiple websites including Common Sense Media in the elementary. Mrs. Vos teaches digital citizenship and the importance of online safety with Common Sense Media to all grades. In the junior high, every one gets their surface and many gaming websites are blocked for the purpose of school. They do that so we can only visit the sites that are school appropriate. In Kings Junior High, Mr. Wright teaches a class called Cyber-wise and he mainly have students research about digital citizenship and how other school district teaches digital citizenship. Kings junior high doesn’t have any specific classes to teach cyber bullying besides Mr. Wright’s class.

Kings has secured firewalls to block out scams and phishing from outside. Kings also have tech expert Mr. Harcrow who helps set up surfaces and helps with tech support. Kings has their individual IT department to help install and download new software. All of Kings students know how to execute digital citizenship.
